Details

Hibiscus Tea Organic is a versatile tea from the roselle plant. Thanks to its deep red color, fruity taste and fresh aroma, this refreshing tea is an ideal thirst-quencher for any time of day.

What is hibiscus tea?

Hibiscus tea is made from dried hibiscus flowers, namely the calyces of Hibiscus sabdariffa, also known as roselle. This plant grows in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The flowers are harvested, dried and used as a base for herbal tea. In various cultures this drink is known as bissap or zobo, with leaves and blossoms having been used for centuries.

Use and applications

You can prepare hibiscus tea by steeping the flowers for 5 to 10 minutes in hot water of about 90 degrees. Then let the tea rest briefly. An amount of 1 to 3 grams of petals per 200 grams of water is recommended.

This herbal tea has a tangy flavor with notes of red berries and citrus fruits such as lemon and orange. Optionally add a slice of lemon or honey. You can drink hibiscus tea both hot and cold.

  • Use in the teapot for daily use.

  • Combine with mint, rosehip or other herbs for different flavors.

  • Suitable for iced tea, mocktails and other beverage applications.

  • Also usable as a natural dye because of the red color

Characteristics of hibiscus sabdariffa tea

This herbal tea is made without additives and fits within a varied drinking pattern. Hibiscus helps with fatigue*, supports energy levels* and the maintenance of a healthy digestion*. In addition, hibiscus contains antioxidants such as vitamin C. It should be noted, however, that little of this remains in the tea due to the drying process.

Difference between green tea and hibiscus tea

Green tea comes from the leaves of the tea plant and contains caffeine, while hibiscus is an herbal tea made from flowers and is caffeine-free, ideal as a refreshing thirst-quencher in the evening. Green tea has a subtle, sometimes bitter, rich taste, whereas hibiscus has a fresh and slightly tart flavor.
