The coconut
The coconut is a stone fruit of the coconut palm. The flesh is not fleshy, but fibrous. The fruit is in a green husk which is removed after the harvest. After removal, the hairy wooden nut comes out.
History
The coconut has its origin in the Pacific and spread through the oceans. Mainly in South Asia the coconut is used for all kinds of purposes. Before our era, the coconut played a role in the life of Asians. Coconuts were brought to the Western world by explorers, making the coconut widely known.
Creation coconut flour
In the coconut is pulp. The pulp is scraped from the nuts and then pressed to separate the coconut oil from the pulp. The remaining pulp is dried and then grated or ground into flour. Coconut flour is thus the dried and ground rasp of the coconut.
Coconut flour is gluten-free and a good alternative to wheat and other cereal flours. Coconut flour is an excellent source of fiber and gives a slightly sweet taste to dishes.
Use
Organic Coconut flour is for many purposes. For example, it can be used in bakery products, to make coconut milk. People who normally buy organic wheat flour for use in various dishes, can use organic coconut flour in stead.
Not much is needed in baking, because coconut flour absorbs much more than other types of flour. 1 to 1 substitution is therefore not necessary; when substituting "normal flour" for coconut flour, assume a quarter to a third of the quantity specified. You will, however, need to increase (almost double) the amount of eggs in the recipe to keep the mixture liquid.
When substituting in meat applications, coconut flour can be substituted 1 for 1 in terms of quantity.
