Quinoa (Kinwa) originated in the Andes region of Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia, where it was used for human consumption 3,000 to 4,000 years before our era, because it grows better at high altitudes than corn. Quinoa contains twice as much protein as rice and four times as much calcium as wheat! Quinoa also contains vitamin B, vitamin E, iron, copper, magnesium and amino acids such as lystin and cystinene. These essential amino acids are hardly found in other cereals and are also not produced by our bodies. And as if that were not enough, Quinoa is also gluten-free, which also contributes to the popularity of this superfood! There are 3,000 different types of Quinoa but the most common are White, Red and Black. Each colour has its own speciality. The Quinoa can be served either cold or hot.

Using Quinoa mix.

In this mix of White, Red and Black Quinoa, you have the best of all three types of Quinoa. Plus, it looks nice too. Use it as a substitute for rice or couscous, in salads or in wok dishes. Rinse the Quinoa and cook it for about 10 to 15 minutes. Quinoa also goes well with meat and fish.
