Sports drink supplementation of minerals
With sweating, we lose not only water but also minerals such as sodium, potassium and magnesium. Normally the loss of minerals has less effect on performance than moisture loss, but it can cause muscle cramps. So under extreme conditions in a draught, besides water also minerals need to be replenished. A sports drink should, therefore, contain sufficient minerals.
A sports drink should taste great
The feeling of thirst that normally arises during exertion is already insufficient to replenish the resulting fluid deficiency. If the sports drink does not taste well, you will drink even less. The composition of the sports drink can still be as optimal as it is, if it is not tasty, you drink too little and it does not yet offer any advantages.
