MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) powder is a compound of sulfur that originates in the ocean. The original compound evaporates from the ocean and forms MSM powder in the upper atmosphere. Because MSM powder dissolves easily in water, it falls back to the earth with the rainfall. It is then dispersed in small amounts through the roots of plants and throughout the food chain. Small amounts of MSM are thus found in our food, but MSM supplements are made to obtain a higher concentration of this important compound and to be more accessible as a nutrient. The healing properties of sulfur have been recognized for centuries. Sulfur is the third most abundant mineral in the human body; sulfur-containing compounds are found in all cells of the body.

As soon as the MSM powder is synthesized, it is dehydrated by centrifuges. The remaining solution is then filtered to ensure that no foreign particles are left behind before it cools and forms solid particles. The crystallisation process is essential for the purification of MSM: most impurities do not fit into the lattice structure of the crystals. They remain part of the separated liquid solution and do not end up in the final product.

The MSM crystals are dried and carefully screened again for possible contamination. The resulting product is a white, odourless crystalline material that resembles sugar, which is very soluble in water or juice.
