Hemp Protein Powder

HEMP PROTEIN POWDER

CANNABIS SATIVA.

HISTORY

The hemp plant has been grown for thousands of years because of its many useful by-products; hemp fibers from the stem of the plant can be woven into a fabric, the roots are used in Eastern medicine and it is called an important addition to Chinese paper pulp. Both the ancient Greeks and Romans used hemp fibers to produce sails and strong ropes for their boats, and added it to cement for construction projects.

Wild hemp is a species that grows in areas with fertile soil, better than most weeds. During the 12,000 years of cultivation by humans, several varieties have been developed. The leaves of Cannabis sativa plants naturally contain a very low level of the chemical tetrahydrocannabinol, which when ingested in very large doses has hallucinogenic properties. This was noticed as early as 2000 B.C. and subsequently strains of cannabis with a much higher THC content of up to 12% have been developed.

These marijuana plants are far removed from the original hemp plant from which modern hemp products are made. Despite their common evolutionary history, hemp and marijuana are different plants, as different from each other as wolves are from dogs. The hemp variety, grown for food and fibre, has a maximum legal THC content of 0.3% and our hemp protein powder contains only 0.01% THC. Our hemp products are not capable of getting 'high' unless an entire acre of field would smoke up in a row.

Heep oil is popular today as a healthy alternative to other vegetable cooking oils because it has a high content of essential fatty acids. The residue left over after the seeds have been pressed is called hemp cake and was traditionally used as an animal feed because of its high protein content. Hemp cake is the raw material from which our hemp protein powder is made.

Processing

The hemp plants that our seeds produce are organically grown on plantations in Romania, Canada and China. No harmful pesticides or herbicides are used. In addition, hemp is very environmentally friendly because it grows fast and absorbs CO2 in its cellulose fibres. By filtering carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, hemp plantations help combat the effects of global warming. Finally, there is hardly any residual waste during processing because almost any part of the plant can be used.

The hemp plants grow for about 16 weeks and are harvested in autumn when the ripe seeds begin to burst from the seed heads. After harvesting, the raw hemp seeds are cleaned and put through a fine sieve to remove all the dirt. Eventually, they go through metal and stone detectors to ensure that only the pure seeds are further processed.

The whole seeds are carefully cold-pressed so that there is no risk of heat exposure which causes the fragile essential fatty acids to deteriorate. The rich oil is filtered and stored, leaving the protein-rich residue. Only cold and mechanical techniques are used to process our hemp, in contrast to other oil extraction techniques based on harmful substances such as hexane. Once the hemp cake is dry, it is milled by a vibrating sieving system, which removes seed fibres and leaves a fine nutty brown powder.

Healthy Properties

Our hemp protein powder is very rich in protein (contains up to 50% protein) and provides all 21 amino acids, including the 8 essential amino acids that the human body cannot produce and must be obtained through nutrition.
